Water, an extremely precious resource, is the basis for this exciting, hands-on unit on oceans. "Part I - Core Teaching Lessons" will have students playing in the waves, comparing fresh water and salt water, and creating oil spills right in their own classroom. "Part II - Student Handbook" is included to supplement all of the Core Lessons. Cooking and art activities from "Part III - Optional Lessons" will give students a different perspective about oceans. A student exam to test the students' knowledge of the information contained in this unit is also included. Set sail for an exciting voyage!
PART I - CORE TEACHING LESSONS
In this section, students will learn about the Earth's Oceans. The lesson titles and subsequent activities are as follows:

The Air and Water unit focuses on the air and water in our environment. Children complete different discovery activities with the unit being divided into four sections:
SECTION ONE: LESSON PLANS
This section contains a set of lesson plans for the teacher. Details are provided for the activities that the children participate in during each lesson.
SECTION TWO: FACT & DISCOVERY CARDS
The second section provides a fact card on air, a fact card on water, and tweleve discovery cards. The majority of the lessons center around the fact cards and discovery cards. The discovery cards enable the children to learn about the different aspects of air and water.
SECTION THREE: STUDENT BOOKLET
The third section of this unit contains a student booklet in which children can record their findings and discoveries.
SECTION FOUR: OUTLINES & ACTIVITIES
The final section includes a vocabulary match game and science fair project planning outline that are used during the lessons of the units. In addition, other activities are included to reinforce what the children learn throughout the "Air and Water" unit.
Throughout the unit on air and water, children learn about the role of air in our environment, the air cycle, wind and the role it plays in our lives, plants and how they help us live, weather vanes, air pollution, the role of water in our environment, the water cycle, evaporation and condensation of water, rain gauges and water pollution.
